Development Engineer (Mechatronics, Remote)

Job summary

The role involves developing and implementing automated solutions for lab processes in the field of energy conversion and storage, particularly focusing on sustainable batteries and materials for Power2X. The position requires collaboration with a lab automation team and external engineering firms to enhance research and development efforts.

Qualifications

• MSc or PhD in Automation Engineering (Robotics, Mechatronics, or related field)
• Experience in machine building and implementing robotic systems in production environments
• Strong analytical skills for mechanical and electrical design enhancements

Responsibilities

• Automate synthesis and characterization of new materials for Power2X
• Design and develop custom electronic solutions, including schematic capture and PCB layout
• Prototype and refine mechanical solutions, ensuring integration and validation in lab settings
• Set up and commission new equipment, develop APIs, and maintain existing equipment
• Collaborate with students, scientists, and technicians on various projects

Skills

• Proficiency in CAD design (KiCAD, OnShape, Autodesk Fusion 360)
• Experience with robotics arms, gantry systems, and motion systems
• Familiarity with Python programming, Arduino/ESP32 systems, and embedded firmware development in C/C++
• Understanding of wet lab practices and chemical risk assessments

Education

• Advanced degree (MSc or PhD) in relevant engineering fields
