Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a cross-functional team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for a global HR platform. The backend is built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, and applications are hosted on AWS. Qualifications

• Proven experience in engineering with a focus on secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and improving them iteratively.
• Strong systems thinking skills, including the ability to define specifications and ensure quality through verification.
• Familiarity with Postgres or similar databases.
• Experience with CI/CD tools like GitLab or GitHub.

Responsibilities

• Lead development on major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives.
• Engage in product discussions, providing feedback and suggesting improvements.
• Maintain a solid understanding of both product and engineering aspects of the team’s domain.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug technical and business issues as they arise.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform and workflows.

Skills

• Strong knowledge of Elixir, Phoenix, and Postgres.
• Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools.
• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and frontend frameworks like React or Next.js is a plus.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.
