Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This position involves joining a team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for a global HR platform. The backend is primarily built with Elixir and Phoenix, utilizing a Postgres database, while the front-end employs React and Next.js. The role offers the flexibility of remote work and the opportunity to tackle complex challenges that impact businesses worldwide.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in engineering with a focus on secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and iterating on them.
• Strong system thinking skills, including the ability to define specifications and ensure quality through verification.
• Proficiency with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.

Responsibilities

• Lead development on major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives.
• Engage in product discussions, providing feedback and suggesting improvements.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the team’s domain.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug technical and business issues as they arise.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform and workflows.
• Ensure performance, accessibility, and API design best practices in implementations.

Skills

• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, and React/Vue/Angular is a plus.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.
