Special Consultant in HPC System Administration (Bioinformatics, Remote)

Job summary

The role involves managing HPC system administration, integrating mobile laptop solutions with HPC, and addressing IT issues related to data sharing, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). The consultant will support the establishment of an AI-based analytical platform for global pathogen surveillance.

Qualifications

• Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience with Linux/Unix system administration.
• At least 3 years of experience in building, managing, or administering HPC clusters.
• Proven experience working with partners in LMICs.
• Documented experience in pathogen genomics or microbial bioinformatics.
• Proficiency in scripting and pipeline development.
• Skills in C/C++, bash, awk, python, and SQL.
• Strong command of English, both written and spoken.
• Experience in teaching and conducting training courses in bioinformatics, especially in resource-limited settings.
• Scientific publications in the relevant field.

Responsibilities

• Set up and administer HPC systems.
• Integrate laptop-based analyses with HPC analyses.
• Install bioinformatics pipelines.
• Provide technical assistance to global co-creation partners.
• Support infrastructure procurement at the organization and among partners.
• Conduct training courses in LMICs.

Skills

• Strong technical skills in HPC and bioinformatics.
• Ability to travel, including to remote regions in LMICs.
• Experience in teaching and training.

Education

• Relevant degree in bioinformatics, computer science, or a related field is preferred.

Tools

• Familiarity with bioinformatics tools and HPC management software.
