Director of Data (Fintech, Remote)

Job summary

This role involves leading a data department of approximately 15 members, focusing on Platform Engineering, Analytics Engineering, and Data Science. The Director will be responsible for the data strategy, execution, and roadmap, ensuring the department supports various functions across the organization.

Qualifications

• Over 8 years of experience in data engineering or analytics, with at least 3 years in a management role.
• Extensive knowledge of modern data stack technologies including dbt, Trino/Presto, and Apache Iceberg.
• Proven experience with ETL/ELT processes at scale, including CDC and batch processing.
• Familiarity with financial data and analytics in fintech or financial services.
• Proficient in Python and SQL, with the ability to review code and make architectural decisions.
• Experience managing remote teams across different time zones.

Responsibilities

• Lead and develop three sub-teams, ensuring effective delivery and prioritization.
• Own the Data Lakehouse architecture and make decisions on tooling.
• Ensure accuracy in partner invoicing and manage data change for product launches.
• Deliver embedded analytics and support self-service analytics initiatives.
• Oversee AI/ML projects and collaborate with various departments to align data products with business needs.
• Manage infrastructure costs and operate production systems, ensuring data availability and accuracy.

Skills

• Strong stakeholder management skills, capable of bridging executive priorities and engineering execution.
• Experience with GCP, Kubernetes, and Terraform is advantageous.

Education

• A degree in a relevant field is preferred but not explicitly stated.

• Familiarity with tools such as Airflow, Airbyte, Redpanda, and cloud storage solutions is essential.
