Head of Payments (Fintech, Remote)

Job summary

This role involves leading a centralized payments infrastructure aimed at embedding payment capabilities across a portfolio of companies and serving merchants directly. The position requires extensive experience in the payments sector, particularly in understanding the inner workings of payment service providers (PSPs) and the associated economic models.

Qualifications

• Significant experience in the payments industry, particularly within the PSP space.
• Proven track record of P&L ownership or accountability for commercial outcomes.
• Familiarity with go-to-market strategies in payments, including merchant acquisition and channel strategy.
• Ability to engage with product and engineering teams effectively.
• Strong negotiation skills with major payment infrastructure providers.
• Comfortable operating as a senior leader in a multi-brand organization.
• Fluent in English, both written and spoken.

Responsibilities

• Define and execute the commercial strategy for the payments infrastructure, focusing on merchant outreach and channel prioritization.
• Manage the P&L for the payments function, including setting revenue targets and tracking performance.
• Lead commercial relationships with processing and infrastructure partners, including contract negotiations and pricing discussions.
• Serve as the primary payments leader, aligning various teams around strategic objectives and representing the payments function at the board level.
• Oversee day-to-day operations of the payments initiative, ensuring timely delivery and focus on strategic goals.

Skills

• Deep understanding of payments business economics and product development.
• Strong organizational and leadership skills to navigate complex stakeholder environments.

Education

• Relevant experience in senior commercial, product, or operational roles within the payments sector.

Tools

• Familiarity with e-commerce platforms and regulatory compliance in the EU is beneficial but not essential.
