Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a cross-functional team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for a global HR platform. The position is fully remote, allowing for flexible work arrangements.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in building secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical knowledge of designing automation workflows and iterating on them.
• Strong understanding of systems thinking, including specification definition and quality assurance.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools like GitLab or GitHub.

Responsibilities

• Lead major projects and collaborate on cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products.
• Engage in product discussions, providing technical insights and suggestions for improvements.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business challenges.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform and workflows.
• Design interfaces with a focus on performance and accessibility.

Skills

• Experience with Functional Programming languages (e.g., Elixir, Erlang, Scala).
• Knowledge of containerization tools like Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes.
• Familiarity with cloud services, particularly AWS.
• Proficiency in frontend frameworks such as React, Next.js, or similar.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.
