Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This position involves joining a cross-functional team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for various products. The backend is primarily built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, and applications are hosted on AWS.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing automation workflows and improving them through iteration.
• Proficient in defining specifications, breaking down plans, and ensuring quality through verification.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.

Responsibilities

• Lead development on major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products.
• Engage in product discussions, providing technical insights and suggesting improvements.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business challenges.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform and workflows.

Skills

• Experience with Functional Programming languages (e.g., Elixir, Erlang, Scala, Clojure, Haskell) is a plus.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, and frontend frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular is advantageous.

Education

• Relevant experience in software engineering or a related field is required.
