Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a cross-functional team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for a global HR platform. The backend is primarily built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, and applications are hosted on AWS. Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and improving them iteratively.
• Ability to think in systems, defining specifications clearly and ensuring quality through verification.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of significant projects and participate in cross-team initiatives.
• Engage in product discussions, providing feedback and suggesting improvements based on technical insights.
• Maintain a solid understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform, focusing on performance and accessibility.
• Develop reusable workflows and ensure results are correct and reliable through verification loops.

Skills

• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, and frontend frameworks like React, Vue, or Angular is a plus.

Education

• Relevant technical education or equivalent experience in software engineering.
