Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a cross-functional team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for various products. The backend is primarily built with Elixir and Phoenix, utilizing a Postgres database, while the front-end employs React and Next.js. The position is fully remote, allowing for flexible work arrangements.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and improving them iteratively.
• Proficient in defining specifications, breaking down plans, and ensuring quality through verification.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.

Responsibilities

• Lead development on major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products.
• Provide product feedback and suggest technical improvements based on expertise.
• Maintain a solid understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform and workflows.
• Design interfaces with performance and accessibility in mind.

Skills

• Experience with Functional Programming languages (e.g., Elixir, Erlang, Scala).
• Knowledge of Kubernetes and Docker.
• Familiarity with AWS and front-end frameworks like Next.js, React, Vue, or Angular.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.
