Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a diverse team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for various products in a fully remote environment. The backend technology stack includes Elixir, Phoenix, and Postgres, with applications hosted on AWS.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing automation workflows and improving them iteratively.
• Ability to define specifications, break down plans, and ensure quality through verification.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab or GitHub.

Responsibilities

• Lead development on major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products.
• Engage in product discussions, providing feedback and technical insights for improvements.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business challenges.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform and workflows.

Skills

• Experience with Functional Programming languages (e.g., Elixir, Erlang, Scala) is a plus.
• Knowledge of Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and modern frontend frameworks (Next.js, React).

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent practical experience in software engineering or a related field.

Tools

• Elixir, Phoenix, Postgres, GitLab, AWS, CI/CD tools.
