Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for various products. The backend is built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, and applications are hosted on AWS. The position allows for significant impact and offers a flexible work environment.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and improving them iteratively.
• Ability to think in systems, clearly define specifications, and ensure quality through verification.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools like GitLab or GitHub.

Responsibilities

• Lead development on major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives for HR and Payroll products.
• Engage in product discussions, providing feedback and suggesting improvements based on technical insights.
• Maintain a strong understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform, focusing on performance and accessibility.

Skills

• Experience with Functional Programming languages (e.g., Elixir, Erlang, Scala).
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and modern front-end frameworks (Next.js, React).

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.

Tools
