Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a cross-functional team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for various products. The backend is built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, and applications are hosted on AWS. Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and improving them iteratively.
• Proficient in Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools like GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.

Responsibilities

• Lead major team projects and participate in cross-team initiatives related to HR and Payroll products.
• Engage in product discussions, providing feedback and technical insights for improvements.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes and team activities.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform and workflows.

Skills

• Experience with Functional Programming languages such as Elixir, Erlang, or Scala is a plus.
• Familiarity with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and frontend frameworks like Next.js or React is advantageous.

Education

• Relevant degree or equivalent experience in software engineering or a related field.
