Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

This role involves joining a team of engineers focused on developing tools, APIs, and integrations for HR and Payroll products. The backend is primarily built using Elixir and Phoenix, with a Postgres database, and applications are hosted on AWS. The position offers the flexibility of remote work and the opportunity to tackle complex challenges in a supportive environment.

Qualifications

• Strong engineering fundamentals with experience in shipping secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Practical experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and iterating on them.
• Ability to define specifications clearly and ensure quality through systematic approaches.
• Experience with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools such as GitLab or GitHub.

Responsibilities

• Lead major projects and participate in cross-team initiatives.
• Engage in product development, providing feedback and suggesting improvements.
• Maintain a solid understanding of both product and engineering aspects of the team’s domain.
• Conduct code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business issues.
• Mentor junior engineers and participate in hiring processes.
• Propose and implement improvements to the platform and workflows.

Skills

• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, and frontend frameworks like Next.js, React, or Vue is a plus.

Education

• Relevant technical degree or equivalent experience in software engineering.
