Senior Backend Engineer (Remote, Global)

Job summary

The role involves joining a cross-functional team of engineers to develop tools, APIs, and integrations for HR and Payroll products. The backend is primarily built with Elixir and Phoenix, utilizing a Postgres database, with deployments managed through CI/CD practices.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in engineering with a focus on secure, reliable, and scalable production systems.
• Experience in designing or adopting automation workflows and enhancing them through iterations.
• Strong system thinking skills: ability to define specifications, break down plans, and ensure quality through verification.
• Proficiency with Postgres or similar databases.
• Familiarity with CI/CD tools like GitLab, GitHub, or Jenkins.

Responsibilities

• Lead the development of significant projects and engage in cross-team initiatives.
• Actively contribute to product discussions and provide technical insights for improvements.
• Maintain a comprehensive understanding of the team’s domain from both product and engineering perspectives.
• Participate in code reviews and contribute to the shared codebase.
• Debug and resolve technical and business challenges.
• Mentor junior engineers and provide guidance.
• Propose and implement enhancements to the platform and workflows.
• Ensure interfaces are designed with performance and accessibility in mind.

Skills

• Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, AWS, Next.js, and modern frontend frameworks (React/Vue/Angular) is advantageous.

Education

• Relevant technical degree or equivalent experience in software engineering.
