Global Director of Biodiversity Science (Conservation, Remote)

Job summary

This role involves leading a new biodiversity science initiative within a global conservation organization. The Director will manage a small team focused on advancing biodiversity monitoring and assessment, providing thought leadership, and enhancing scientific engagement in global governance arenas.

Qualifications

• PhD or equivalent advanced degree in biodiversity science or a related field, with 8 years of relevant experience, including supervisory roles.
• Proven experience in managing interdisciplinary teams and projects across various geographies.
• Strong skills in communication and relationship-building, with the ability to convey complex scientific concepts to diverse audiences.
• Experience in grant writing, directing multi-disciplinary research, and publishing in peer-reviewed journals is preferred.
• Familiarity with futures thinking and global biodiversity governance frameworks.
• Interest in emerging technologies in biodiversity science, including AI-assisted tools.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee biodiversity science initiatives across multiple regions, ensuring scientific rigor and alignment with organizational goals.
• Collaborate with climate and social scientists to integrate diverse perspectives into biodiversity projects.
• Build and maintain partnerships with stakeholders, including Indigenous communities and other scientific disciplines.
• Secure funding through grant writing and proposals, effectively communicating the organization’s mission and goals.
