About the role

Job summary

This fully funded PhD position focuses on advanced motion planning and control for autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs), contributing to innovative research aimed at enhancing underwater infrastructure safety. The role involves collaboration with a dynamic team and offers hands-on experience in real-world testing.

Qualifications

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent academic level.
  • Strong analytical skills with a background in control theory, state estimation, and motion planning.
  • Documented experience in developing and testing solutions for robotic systems.
  • Proficiency in ROS/ROS2, Python, and/or C++/C#.
  • Knowledge in acoustic sensing, hydrodynamics, or machine learning is advantageous.
  • Strong communication skills in English, particularly in scientific writing and presentations.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on planning, guidance, navigation, and control of AUVs in structured environments.
  • Design, implement, and test a novel AUV concept.
  • Perform experimental work in marine environments for data collection and validation.
  • Prepare scientific publications for ISI journals and international conferences.
  • Share research findings with professional audiences.
  • Co-supervise BSc and MSc projects related to the PhD project.
  • Assist in teaching BSc and MSc courses.
