About the role

Job summary

The Danish Center for Hadal Research is offering five fully funded PhD positions focused on deep-sea biogeochemistry and microbial ecology, set to commence between July and October 2026. Candidates will engage in advanced theoretical and experimental studies, including international deep-sea expeditions.

Qualifications

  • Strong commitment to independent and collaborative research.
  • Relevant experience in experimental methodologies and analytical techniques is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct research on dark carbon fixation, plastic pollution, viral impacts on microbial performance, hydrostatic pressure effects on microbes, and microbial membrane lipid characteristics.
  • Participate in international deep-sea expeditions for data collection.
  • Utilize advanced analytical techniques for data analysis and interpretation.

Skills

  • Proficiency in bioinformatics, molecular techniques, and spectroscopic analysis.
  • Experience with experimental approaches related to microbial ecology and biogeochemistry.

Education

  • Candidates should possess a relevant Master's degree or equivalent in biology, ecology, or a related field.

Tools

  • Familiarity with NanoSIMS, MAR-FISH, confocal microscopy, high-resolution imaging, spectroscopic analysis, Real-Time PCR, and transcriptomics is advantageous.
