About the role

Job summary

This PhD project focuses on the study of fluid transport through biological structures, particularly in the context of plasmodesmata in plant cells. The research combines theoretical modeling with experimental approaches to understand the physical mechanisms governing molecular transport in biological systems.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in physics, biophysics, soft matter, microfluidics, or related fields.
  • Hands-on laboratory experience in experimental research.
  • Solid analytical skills with experience in quantitative data analysis and physical modeling.
  • Interest in fundamental research at the intersection of physics and biology.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English, demonstrated through prior scientific writing.

Responsibilities

  • Investigate physical mechanisms governing molecular transport through plasmodesmata-inspired channels.
  • Collaborate with MSc students on device fabrication and characterization.
  • Develop a new physicochemical model for selective transport in biological nanochannels.

Education

Salary and appointment terms

  • A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent academic level is required.
