About the role

Job summary

This PhD position focuses on the development of Brain-on-Chip models using human pluripotent stem cell technology, nano and microfabrication, and 3D printing to study neurodegenerative diseases and neuronal development. The role is part of a European Doctoral Network aimed at addressing brain disorders through innovative biomedical tools.

Qualifications

  • A master's degree (or equivalent) in Material Science, Biotechnology, Biomedical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Two years of relevant academic experience equivalent to 120 ECTS points.
  • Expertise in material science, bioprinting, or organ-on-chip applications.
  • Experience in collaborative research environments.
  • Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
  • Proactive attitude towards learning new skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop dynamic scaffolds for organoid-like tissue expansion.
  • Integrate scaffolds into microfluidic brain-on-chip devices for cell culture and differentiation.
  • Collaborate with partners to integrate microelectrode arrays for neural activity studies.
  • Conduct biochemical assays and immunocytochemistry for neural development characterization.
  • Publish research findings in high-impact journals and present at conferences.
  • Participate in interdisciplinary training within the Doctoral Network.

Skills

  • Hands-on experience in mammalian cell culture.
  • Basic knowledge of biochemical assays and molecular biological techniques.
  • Strong analytical skills and ability to work in an interdisciplinary environment.

Education

  • A master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field.

Tools

  • Familiarity with additive manufacturing, photolithography, and bioprinting technologies.
