PhD Researcher in Digitalisation and Robotics (Construction, Remote)

Job summary

This position offers an opportunity to engage in advanced research on digitalisation, automation, and robotics within the construction sector, focusing on projects aimed at enhancing construction processes through innovative technologies.

Qualifications

• A two-year master's degree (120 ECTS points) or equivalent academic qualification.
• Strong experience in one or more of the following areas: data modelling, ontology development, semantic technologies, IoT/sensing devices, digital construction workflows, AI and machine learning, automation and robotics, and life cycle analysis (LCA).
• Proven ability to work effectively in interdisciplinary teams and independently.
• Excellent written and oral communication skills.
• Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.

Responsibilities

• Conduct research linking construction site data collection with life cycle and sustainability analysis.
• Develop extensions to international data ontologies for safe and lean construction processes.
• Automate data collection from construction site monitoring, focusing on resource and energy efficiency.
• Optimize construction site operations and develop demonstrators in a learning factory environment.
• Disseminate research findings through publications and conferences, and engage with industry partners.
• Support teaching activities and co-supervise MSc students as needed.

Skills

• Proficiency in data integration and digital workflows, including digital twins and information backbones.
• Experience with software development related to AI and machine learning.
• Knowledge of serious gaming for personalized learning environments, including AR/VR.

Education

• A master's degree or equivalent in a relevant field is required.

Tools

• Familiarity with open data standards, linked data frameworks, and automation technologies in construction.
