Job summary

This position involves advancing the field of 4D printing specifically for short-fiber reinforced systems through experimental research. The role focuses on developing programmable composite structures by controlling fiber orientation during the printing process, integrating advanced process development with topology optimization to enhance various material properties.

Qualifications

  • PhD degree or equivalent in a relevant field.
  • Strong background in additive manufacturing, composite materials, or robotic fabrication.
  • Experience with digital design and control tools such as MATLAB and RobotStudio.
  • Practical knowledge in material testing, mechanical characterization, or process optimization.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct large-scale processing of thermosetting polymers using an in-house robotic 3D printing cell.
  • Design, manufacture, and characterize specimens with controlled anisotropy to achieve predictable performance.
  • Experimentally realize programmable composite materials, bridging digital fabrication and materials science.

Skills

  • Open and creative mindset with the ability to think across disciplines.
  • Familiarity with fiber-reinforced polymers and their mechanical or thermal behavior is advantageous.
  • Experience with simulation tools for thermal, mechanical, or flow processes (e.g., COMSOL, ANSYS, OpenFOAM) is a plus.

Education

  • A PhD degree (or equivalent) is required for this position.

Tools

  • Proficiency in MATLAB, RobotStudio, and possibly experience with robotic systems (e.g., ABB, KUKA, UR).
