Job summary

A postdoctoral position is available in the field of enzyme engineering, focusing on developing innovative methods for protein engineering to address bioproduction and bioremediation challenges. The role involves utilizing advanced computational and experimental techniques to enhance enzyme properties and contribute to sustainable solutions for greenhouse gas reduction.

Qualifications

  • PhD in biotechnology, biochemistry, biology, chemistry, biophysics, or a related field.
  • Proven experience in molecular biology and protein engineering.
  • Familiarity with assay development and enzyme kinetics.
  • Proficient in English, both written and spoken.
  • Strong communication skills for interdisciplinary collaboration.
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to work independently.

Responsibilities

  • Engineer various enzyme properties through experimental and computational methods.
  • Establish high-throughput screening methods and analytics, including HPLC and/or LC/GC-MS.
  • Conduct protein expression, purification, and characterization using biochemical and biophysical assays.
  • Identify variants using next-generation sequencing techniques.
  • Collaborate with the research group and external networks.
  • Publish results in peer-reviewed journals and present at international conferences.
  • Mentor and supervise PhD, MSc, and BSc students, as well as research assistants.

Skills

  • Experience with gas biotransformations and fed-batch fermenters is preferred.
  • Knowledge of plant biochemistry, genetics, and physiology is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with bioinformatics and programming in Python or similar languages is a plus.
  • Experience with protein modeling software such as AlphaFold3, Boltz2, PyMOL, and Chimera is beneficial.
  • Interest in advanced computational methods and entrepreneurship for societal impact is encouraged.

Education

  • A PhD degree (or equivalent) is required for this position.

Tools

  • Proficiency in using computational tools and software for protein engineering and analysis.
