About the role

Job summary

The role involves developing FAIR and interoperable workflows to enhance materials discovery and development in energy conversion and storage. The position supports large-scale digitalization initiatives and requires collaboration with European partners to create machine-actionable data and processes.

Qualifications

  • MSc or PhD in computer science, materials science, physics, chemistry, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Python and modern software engineering practices, including testing, CI/CD, and Git.
  • Experience with workflow systems (e.g., AiiDA, pyiron) and containerization tools (Docker/Conda).
  • Familiarity with FAIR and linked-data technologies (e.g., JSON-LD/RDF) and domain ontologies.
  • Strong background in computer simulations relevant to materials physics/chemistry.
  • Excellent English communication skills and ability to collaborate across disciplines.

Responsibilities

  • Design and implement workflows that integrate self-driving laboratories and AI tools.
  • Position the institution as a leader in research data management for materials science.
  • Incorporate industrial requirements into materials science workflows.
  • Advise on digital solutions for product and process safety.
  • Initiate and support third-party funded research projects and collaborations.
  • Coordinate and report on project events, workshops, and tutorials.

Skills

  • Experience with databases, API development, and integration with electronic lab notebooks.
  • Knowledge of artificial intelligence and machine learning applications.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Ability to work independently and manage complex tasks.
  • Capacity to engage in a dynamic, multidisciplinary environment.

Education

  • MSc or PhD in a relevant field is required.

Tools

  • Python, Docker, Conda, AiiDA, pyiron, Apache Airflow, and other relevant software engineering tools.
