Denmark is one of the most welcoming countries for English-speaking professionals. The Danish workforce is highly international, particularly in the tech, life sciences, shipping, and design sectors — and English is effectively the working language at most international companies.
As an American, you'll need a work permit before you can start working. The most common route is a job offer first: once you have one, your employer can sponsor a work and residence permit through the Danish Agency for International Recruitment and Integration (SIRI). Processing times are typically 1–4 months. Denmark also has a Pay Limit Scheme (fast-track for salaries above ~DKK 465,000/year) and a Positive List for in-demand professions.
